The site is located in the south western city suburbs along Bandon Road, historically the main western approach into the city. The surrounding area is largely residential with a high percentage of student dwellers due to the close proximity of University College Cork.
The scheme is organised into four blocks varying in heights from 4 to 5 storeys and separated by generous communal courtyards and gardens. To the south, the scheme offers views over the Lough and its park, to the north the scheme sits along the historical streetscape of Bandon road.
The proposal focuses on an active and animated street front by locating the site entrance as well as the student’s amenities and communal space facing Bandon Road. The direct pedestrian and vehicular access from Bandon Road provide both easy way-finding and passive supervision. The scheme’s internal layout combines 6-8 bed modular clusters comprising uniform en-suite bedrooms, and a shared dual aspect living/kitchen/dining space.
