O’Mahony Pike Architects were the urban design consultants in the preparation of a masterplan for this 100Ha site, proposing a vibrant and innovative urban quarter with sustainability and social inclusion design priorities.

The Cork docks provide a unique opportunity for the further development of Cork City with extensive river frontage, obsolescent dockland uses and an abundance of under-utilised land. To a brief prepared by Cork City Council and the Docklands Directorate, the masterplan builds on the opportunity presented by the location on the picturesque banks of the River Lee Valley by creating a wide riverside promenade which connects in turn to a new canal system and to an active water basin and to which the proposed series of new neighbourhoods is linked via an interconnected hierarchy of streets, laneways, squares and pocket parks.
